Elementary School Sexual Health Manual: A Guide for Teachers

According to Health Canada’s Canadian Guidelines for Sexual Health Education (2008), comprehensive sexual health education emphasizes the importance of shared responsibility in effective teaching. Parents, peers, places of worship, schools, health care systems, governments, the media and a variety of other institutions and agencies are included in this model of learning.

An important part of this process is working with schools, staff, and others to ensure that parents receive the necessary information for informed consent that includes the scope of sexual health topics that will be discussed in class.

The content of this manual is based on the comprehensive school health approach and was developed in accordance to the British Columbia curriculum as set out by the 2012 British Columbia Ministry of Education prescribed learning outcomes.
