Sprockids Mountain Biking

Sprockids

Sprockids runs after school, spring break and summer programs for young people to learn the skills of mountain biking in a graduated fashion.

The Sprockids After-School-Cool Program is an 8-week after school camp that teaches mountain bike riding skills. The program is a multi-tiered approach, designed to provide participants with the opportunity to experience success no matter what their riding skill level. The art of riding is broken down into 55 skills and four program levels, taught in a graduated fashion, where each new skill builds on a previous skill. Through the sport of cycling, 9-12 year olds develop a strong sense of self esteem by discovering and building on the potential within themselves.

The “train the trainer” model allows teenagers and community members (parents, teachers, group leaders, etc) to teach mountain biking skills to young people. Trainers and participants are engaged in a fun, safe, and adventurous way to get active, get challenged, and get dirty.

Sprockids provides bikes and other equipment where needed, and provides training sessions and manuals for the trainers.

Other programming is implemented on demand, with the different communities served including youth at risk, First Nations, street kids etc. The low or subsidized program cost provides affordability and accessibility across a broad spectrum.
