RespectED: Beyond the Hurt

The program Beyond the Hurt (BTH YF) is a youth facilitated program aimed at bullying and harassment prevention among children and youth ages 11 and older.

Beyond the Hurt Youth Facilitator Training:

This interactive training teaches Youth Facilitators in grades 10-12 to:

•develop a repertoire of facilitation/presentation skills and strategies

•understand the dynamics of bullying (including the roles of power, discrimination, and stereotyping)

•understand the difference between bullying and harassment

•appreciate the potential impacts of bullying

•value and pursue positive peer interactions

•identify appropriate responses to bullying (including reporting procedures)

•practise prevention skills and strategies

•identify helping resources for dealing with bullying situations

•deliver a Beyond the Hurt workshop to peers or younger students.

Beyond the Hurt Workshop:

Successful Youth Facilitators then deliver a Beyond the Hurt workshop to their peers or younger students to help them understand:

•benefits of respectful relationships

•power and the role it plays in bullying dynamics

•types of bullying (verbal, physical, social and cyber-bullying)

•negative effects of bullying

•harassment, stereotyping, discrimination and exclusion

Adult Advisors support and guide the Youth Facilitators with their action planning and the implementation of the Beyond the Hurt program to create a safe, inclusive environment. Adult Advisors should be able to commit to the initiative beyond the introductory year.
